What is FSC 

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a global not-for-profit organization that sets the standards for what is a responsibly managed forest, both environmentally and socially.

FSC label is known as the mark of responsible forestry. The organization works to ensure that the wood comes from a responsible source and improve forest management and its standards. Choosing wood that bears FSC certification means that you can rest assured that this product is made by a company doing their best to protect the environment.  

What the FSC does

FSC sets the standards for responsible forest management. They understand that the best way to prevent deforestation is not by stopping the use of wood products, but rather to ensure that the forest is being responsibly managed. 

Why the FSC Label matters

Deforestation is responsible for roughly 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. When you choose FSC-certified wood, you are contributing to the combat against deforestation

Before FSC certification system, most consumers had no idea where the wood originates from. They had no way of knowing whether the company was simply harvesting trees, if they were planting new ones, or if they even care for the environment at all. FSC changed the way that consumers can make environmentally-responsible choices concerning the materials they use in their lives. 

The trend towards FSC-certified wood

Consumers are increasingly aware that their choice of materials affect the environment a great deal. There is a greater demand for FSC-certified wood products and many companies that concerned themselves with producing  a sustainable product, such as Deco Enterprises, are also choosing FSC-certified wood source. 

More and more regulations and certifications for sustainability such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) or German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) are including FSC-certified wood as the standards for wood use. That is why you may notice that more and more wood products available today are FSC-certified.
